Bonny loves to keep the practise of law interesting and fun! That is why she has created a series of fun lectures which she calls FUN-CTURES. This is a perfect reflection of Bonny Blake’s true love of legal matters. She wants to make it accessible for all those who have an interest in this area.
Here’s a fun fact. Did you know Canada has three distinct legal systems and is unique in the world. These systems are as follows.
- Common Law
- Civil Law
- Aboriginal law.
Common law is derived from English law. It is based on past judgements handed down by the courts. It is different from written law or statutory law.
Civil Law deals with disputes between parties or companies. The government does not get involved in civil law unless someone is getting sued.
Aboriginal Law is a body of law pertaining to aboriginal people that has been made by the courts. Indigenous law consists of laws rooted in the Indigenous societies.
The aboriginal peoples of Canada are defined by the Constitution Act of 1982 and defined as the Indian, Inuit and Metis people.
